· Like many artists, I have been drawing as long as I can remember, but it was in May 1945 that was a landmark for me. I was 11 years old and sold my first drawing for half a Crown (two shillings and sixpence, as it was then). This was five weeks pocket money which I used to receive from my dear Grandfather . I remember the drawing well. A horses head in black Indian ink on white notepaper, about 8" x 5". Think I must have had more confidence then, as this was reversed out and I went straight in with an old dip pen, no pre drawing with a pencil,, which I probably would do today. The courage of youth, as they say. One could say, I have come a long way since then, but I sometimes wonder, in which direction. My poor feet struggle under my bodyweight and painfully tell me when I have been standing too long painting and drawing. This has escalated since my accident six months ago when I had a bad fall in the shower while on holiday in Spain, when I broke my shoulder, my,arm, fractured my drawing hand and ribs and also did considerable damage to my foot For over three months, I was forced to draw and paint with my right hand, as I was unable to hold a pencil or brush with my normal left hand. At the tender young age of 83, this was not easy, but 'Need must as the Devil drives'. I am lucky being reasonably, ambidextrous.. To all my lovely family, friends and well wishers, I would like to say a sincere thank you for your kindness, understanding and support. Yes I am well on the mend and like 'Ararnold schwarzenegger' would say "I'll be back"..
